About Louisville Adaptive Rowing

For nearly 30 years, Louisville Adaptive Rowing (LAR) has been bringing the sport of rowing to people with disabilities on the Ohio River. Founded in 1996 and based at the Louisville Community Boathouse in Waterfront Park, we are a Louisville, Kentucky-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit offering both recreational and competitive adaptive rowing to individuals with physical, visual, and intellectual disabilities. Whether you’re looking to compete, get fit, or simply find community on the water, there’s a seat in the boat for you.

Our Mission

To create a supportive and inclusive environment where people with disabilities can grow stronger, build confidence, and find purpose through recreational and competitive rowing.
To advance local and national awareness of adaptive rowing through education, outreach, and community engagement.
To raise awareness of the life-changing physical and emotional benefits of adaptive sports, including adaptive rowing.
To reduce barriers that prevent individuals with disabilities from participating in recreational and competitive rowing.
